Daniel Coloe inducted as a Life Member

Recently the Marcellin Old Collegians Cricket Club had the pleasure of honouring long-time player and committee member Daniel Coloe with Life Membership.

Having joined the club in 2011 after crossing from the Donvale Cricket Club, Dan immediately became an integral part of the club with his top order batting and his willingness to take the wicketkeeping gloves in the 2nd XI.

He quickly joined the committee and became the long-standing club secretary, a job that can take up a lot of time and dedication. Daniel took over the 2nd XI captaincy in the 2014-15 season and had immediate success with a premiership that summer.

Being the club’s long time 2nd XI captain, wicket keeper, secretary, car loaner, boarding house operator, attempted pitch invader translator and regular club legal representative is not an easy job and Daniel’s unwavering commitment to the club and his team-mates is greatly admired and appreciated.

Also appreciated is his sense of humour as some of his team-mates over the years like to remind him of his sometimes slow scoring rate, occasional dropped catches and his brief but eventful run of games in the 1st XI.

A special mention should go to Daniel’s wife Samantha who has been a major supporter of the club and gracious host to many of us at their house, sometimes for a meal, sometimes for seven months.

Some of Daniel’s achievements include

- Four time 2nd XI premiership player
- Three time 2nd XI premiership captain
- 177 matches for the club
- Over a decade as club secretary
- Well over 100 catches
- Over 2,600 runs, including 10 half centuries
- An estimated 40-50,000 balls faced (May be an exaggeration).
- An inexplicable 10 wickets as a bowler.

Congratulations Daniel on an outstanding career and contribution to the club so far and thanks for all your hard work.
