The 2015/16 season started for the B turf defending champions with a humid and muggy one dayer at Glen Iris. It got off to the worst possible start with news that the umpire had called in sick. It had already been a rough morning for opening bowler Day whose hopes that, “Shaving my head will be fine, I’ll probably end up looking like Juddy”, were sadly misguided.
Captain Coloe won the toss and elected to bowl. Mira and Wolf both took early wickets as did Massarotti bowling first change. Glen Iris then had a long sixth wicket stand which allowed them to set a competitive score. Blacky was unlucky not to grab a wicket and then Frenchy and Mira bowled well at the end to keep Glen Iris to 154.
Mazz, the tea-break expert, declared the Glen Iris afternoon tea as, “9.5 out of 10. Outsatnding!”.
Coloe and Cimma got us off to a solid start before Cimma tried to hit one out of the park and Coloe followed not long after. Evans and Fallshaw put on a great partnership that got us into a winning position before Fally sent one down mid on’s throat for 31. Lachie played a great innings, well paced and mature, but unfortunately no one else could support him with Mazz being the only one of the last 7 batsmen to reach double figures. Lachie finished with 60 odd not out and we finished on 149, just 5 runs short of the winning target.
With a string of 2 dayers coming up if we can improve our fielding a bit and make sure we bat the full 80 overs we should hopefully get some W’s on the board.
