Grand Final Rematch Disappointing for the Manningham Club 2nd XI

The 2nd XI needed a win against old rivals East Doncaster to get the season back on track but unfortunately things couldn’t have gone worse.

We won the toss and batted but a top order collapse had us at 4/10 and in big trouble. Mick Dinneen and Kaz put together a partnership to stop a complete disaster with Maz hitting some form at the end of the innings. In the end though, it was a pretty embarrassing 96 posted by the eagles in just 39 overs. Our bowlers and fielders put up a reasonable effort to pull off a miracle and at 5/75 we were half a chance. Sadly East Donny got the runs and then some, finishing up Day 1 at 8/160.

Day 2 started positively with Tristan cleaning up the tail to finish up with the outstanding figures of 5/11 off 16 overs. The top order failed again in our second innings but Kaz and Foss put on a great partnership to give us hope of batting out the remaining 65 overs of day 2. Sadly once they both went after tea there was a steady stream of wickets to have us all out for 168 in 51 overs. A pretty poor effort from players having either played in last year's B turf flag or in the Dunstan Shield. There’s no excuse for only batting 40 overs and it needs to be rectified this week.

If we win against Surrey Hills this week we will go into Christmas probably only 1 game out of the top 4.
