The MOCCC 2nd XI played their first home game of the season against old rivals St. Kevin’s on a cool overcast Saturday in front of another bumper crowd.
Losing the toss we had a bowl with Day and McCarthy picking up early wickets. We had them on the ropes at 5/74 before Steinwell and Marshall put on a solid partnership as we slowly lost our way. St. Kev’s ended up making a defendable 124 with all our bowlers putting in a solid effort. Once again our fielding left a bit to be desired.
Our innings got off to rough start with 'Maz' Massarotti out early but 'Trev' Keogh put in another serviceable effort with 26. Paul Dinneen and Mick 'Lowza' Lowry didn’t last long and we were in a fair bit of trouble at 4/38. The capacity crowd was on the edge of their seats as Captain Coloe and President, Dan Cimoli, put on some runs before Coloe was out plumb LBW, 5/64. Pete French and Nick Watty didn’t hang around long enough to help CImoli but Michael Mirabella made a great cameo batting at number nine to help the ‘Prez’ who made an entertaining 48 to get us over the line in the 38th over sending the parochial home fans into hysterics.
In an unusual twist from our friends at the ECA we play Ashburton for the second time next week at home. Good tickets still available.
