Mid-Season President's Report

Dear All,

It’s been an exciting start to the season with all our teams representing the club with distinction.

Seniors

The 1sts are undefeated in 2015/2016 with new captain Nick Bortolotto and the new look playing squad acquitting themselves well. The highlight was a nail-biting win against Canterbury by 7 runs. With the bat, English import Dom Harding leads the way with 196 @ 49, which includes 105no in his first match for the Eagles. Borts is second in the batting aggregate with 129 @ 25.80.

The 1sts have excelled with the ball, our other English import Graeme White has shown his county cricket experience & class to lead the way with 12 wickets @ 9.75. Nick Burt continues his rise through the ranks with an outstanding 7 wickets @ 7.00. Both Graeme and Nick have incredible economy rates of 1.58 & 1.29 respectively!

The strong start to the year has the 1sts a game and half clear on top of the ladder setting up a wonderfully opportunity in the new year

Coming off last year’s flag the 2nds have struggled with consistency. Only the one win at this point but with a compacted ladder the 2nds have the ability to climb into finals contention if they can string some results together. Lachy Evans has been the standout with the bat scoring 142 (with 1 not out) in just 2 innings to average 142. With the ball, Danny Day has 7 wickets @ 8.71 and Pete French has 6 wickets @ 14.83.

The 3rds also remain undefeated in 2015/2016 and are 2nd on the C Turf ladder. The undefeated start includes a sound beating of Mont Alberts 2nds to regain the John O’Loughlin Cup. With the bat, captain Paul Dinneen has 120 runs @ 40. Robbie Kemp (106no) brought up his first hundred for the club.  With the ball Rowan “Thunder” McKenzie has returned to the club and has 9 wickets @ 19 and Mike Mirabella continues to improve with 8 wickets @ 13.63

Our new 4ths in the LOC2 division have also had good start to the year sitting on a 6-1 record. Lots of dominant performances with the bat thus far with Matt Parker 195 runs @ 65, Sam Landgren 175 @ 25 and James Evans 119 @ 29.75. With the ball Matt Parker again stars with 13 wickets at 11.08 and Damo Murray has 12 wickets @ 12.08

T20

The seniors have 2 wins from 2 matches in the ECA mid-week T20 competition. A win in the final match will ensure progression into the quarter finals. Dom Harding has set the standard thus far with the bat and the ball.

Mick Lowry (L) and Mike Mirabella (R) looked positive after Day 1 of the John O'Loughlin Cup.

Vets

Andrew O’Connell has the Vets squad in a good position coming into the Christmas break. In the newly formed ECA Vets Division 1 the team has 2 wins / 2 losses with 3 games left in the season to get themselves into the finals.  Dave McCarthy leads the way with the bat with 138 @ 69 with Rob Boyd and Chris Mirabella also contributing strongly with averages of 32.33 & 32 respectively. With the ball Richard Harapas has 5 wickets @ 15.20 and Richard Buchanan has 5 wickets @ 16.40

Juniors

Our combined juniors (with Balwyn CC) have 1 win / 2 losses and a draw in the 14c division. This team includes a number of kids who will be starting year 7 at Marcellin next year. We look to expand this team in future years to provide more kids the chance to play cricket at Marcellin.
