Greetings All,
The long Melbourne winter continues however MOCCC has started its preparations for the upcoming cricket season.
After last year’s dramatic finals run for the 1st XI, culminating in an epic semi-final draw and GF win v Glen Iris we look to continue to develop and expand the club. Since 2008/09 the club has claimed 12 premierships in various grades and this success will provide the foundation for further achievements.
We recently held the AGM. From that meeting I can report that club is in good health with strong playing numbers, good financial strength and outstanding commitment from our committee and sponsors.
I would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude to 3 retiring committee members; Marty McIntosh, Ron Murray and Brod Williams.
Marty has served on the committee for countless years in many roles, including as a long serving President. His leadership has been instrumental to the success of the club both on and off the field. His involvement in the club will continue. Planning Partners are a key sponsor of the club. I encourage anyone requiring any financial advice to contact Planning Partners.
Ron Murray also steps down after many years serving the club, notably as a long time treasurer. He will continue to help the club on the field with his deadly outswing bowling. We thank Ronny for his hard work over the many years on the committee.
We also thank Brod for his time at the club, contributing both as a player (2 time premiership player) and serving a stint on the committee, helping with last year’s player recruitment. His hard hitting batting will be missed.
We welcome Adam Massarotti as a replacement on the committee. Adam ran the junior program last year and will continue in this role on the committee. Also joining the committee is Julian Black. Julian has been a star player at the club for many years is a welcome new member on the committee.
Priorities for Season 2016/17
Junior Program – Last year we had success working with the school and Balwyn CC to give some young cricketers (U14) a taste of club cricket. We will continue to expand this and we ask that if you know of any young cricketers looking for a game that you contact Adam Massarotti to register your interest . We are exploring the possibility of a Friday night U19 team and may look to establish a Milo cricket program.
Sponsorship – If you know of any local business that would like to sponsor the club please contact me. With the website, Facebook page and various events during the summer there is a great opportunity for local business to get exposure to the Marcellin community.
Player Recruitment - We continue to look to add to the depth and quality of our playing list. If you know anyone looking for a game of cricket this year please bring them along to preseason training. It is likely we will launch a Father/Son team in the Limited Overs Comp on Saturdays. If you would like to be part of this team contact the club.
In the next few weeks and months we will have more announcements regarding players, coaching and new initiatives. The preseason schedule will be released shortly.
On a final note please keep in contact with the club via the Website and Facebook page. We have plenty of links to Graeme White’s highlights at Northants after his outstanding year at MOCCC!
