Bizarre scenes at Ashburton Park as the MOCCC 2nd XI won their third match for the season and scored back-to-back wins for the first time.
Captain Coloe won the toss and opened the batting with himself and an in form Fallshaw. Fally left one alone while also forgetting where his off stump was and was back in the sheds pretty quickly. Coloe and Lachie put on a match winning partnership of 75 until Dan fell just before tea and Lachie just after. Mick and Mazz put on an entertaining 40 run partnership before both falling with the score on 134. Mazz made the questionable claim that his bat is so powerful he was able to edge one to deep cover. The tail didn’t offer much except for Frenchy’s 19 which also resulted in his middle stump being knocked back without a shot being offered. A total of 173 wasn’t ideal but was defendable if we bowled well.
With some encouragement from the locals our 10 overs at Ashburton on day 1 went quite well with Mira, Danny and Trist all bowling tightly with Trist and Danny both picking up a wicket. 2/16 at stumps.
Day 2 went about as well as it could have with Danny picking up the first wicket with a deceptive, well thought out change up ball (a full toss on leg stump). He picked up another, as did Mira. Tristan came on and continued his great bowling form running through their lower order to finish with figures of 4/15. Keeper Coloe had a touch of the Kamran Akmal’s about him as he put down a catch off Frenchy that he’d rather forget, thankfully Pete got him again a couple of overs later.
All out for 78 before Tea we decided to have another crack at them which was largely uneventful except for Mira snapping a stump in two and both teams trying to figure out how many catches Frenchy had taken / dropped.
Hopefully we can keep this late season form against our old rivals St. Kevins in the final round of 2015/16.
